A New Beginning Storyboards Illustrate Opening Title Sequence

Friday The 13th movies are just as memorable for their opening title sequences as they are for the contents of the film itself and that is why fans yearn for these original sequences that were first introduced in the 1980's. How does one design such a sequence? For starters, a concept must be drawn out and visually realized before any physical effects work can be started. For this article, we will focus on the opening title sequence for Friday The 13th: A New Beginning.

The concept for the opening of A New Beginning has the classic Friday The 13th title flash on screen and then a hockey mask break through in an explosion. To create this effect, storyboards were first drawn by illustrator Dan Curry depicting the exact sequences that would take place. These storyboards can be viewed below in sequence.

The next step was for effects man David Miller to design and create the hockey mask used in the title sequence and have it added to the film effects seen on screen.
