New Jason Voorhees Revealed For Web Series

More information and images are being released as we get closer to the Friday the 13th web series Friday the 13th: The Obsession beginning its filming schedule. A few days ago, we brought you some pics of one of the locations being used for the film. Now, Jason himself has had a small reveal.

Released on the official Facebook page, producers of the upcoming web series posted some awesome images of two looks of Jason Voorhees as he will appear in the webisodes. The two versions definitely represent Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Each hockey mask is a variation on the ones seen in those two movies, but altered to look even more menacing.

Gene Mazza II created the hocks for the series and Darkside Studios produced the hoods. We have a few of the Jason images posted here, but make sure to visit their Facebook page for more!

  2. Masks look good but they should have been something more original imo. Part 4 and 7 already exist, so I don't feel excited about this. Copying is just stale.

  3. There is some original looks as the series progresses and the lead s vision becomes twisted, however the point of the series is an Obsessed fan.. Jason has to look like (or be a mix of) the looks that already exist, without that  the whole point of the series is lost. That said, the series itself is very original.. Jason however, most of the time is a mix of the precious films .. Part 2 Jason even makes an appearence

  7. Well said. So does this exist in the world of the films or is it 'New Nightmare-ish'?

  8. I love hearing new information about this series, especially because I have the honor of having contributed to it. I figure the perks will be given out once the series is done filming.

    Thanks and good luck!

  9. It takes place in our world. So its New Nightmare ish.. but instead of dealing with the stars of the films, it deals with the fans of the film

  10. Tim, that's exactly what I was waiting for - - properly displayed, properly lit shots that are just beyond my ability - - It really makes our work look great ;-p  Going with Darkside was a smart decision, I've been a long time fan of Paul's work, so no way you could possibly go wrong :)

And to echo Tim's sentiments about the originality of the look, I didn't even try to replicate any one particular style.  The "7" is a mash-up of 7 & JGTH.  The "4" is a mix of 4, Vs, and believe it or not, 7 - - I cut the mask down to the shape of 7 by using one of that film's original blanks as a stencil of sorts, only I left out the damage on the side of the jaw from the boat motor.  In a sense, that mask is a subliminal nod to Part 3 as well, because that was the original size & shape of the mask (it was like a "new" Part 7, with no axe hit & no propeller damage), before it was determined to be too small to compliment the appliances that Brooker wore.  That's something that a lot of fans still don't know, but now, you guys do :)

The way I see it, we're just holding up F13 tradition by using the same masks with different finishes just like the films.  It's the same case for the other two masks for Obsession, one is a cross between 3 & 5 (for obvious reasons ;-)) and the other one, well, let's just say it's a continuation of a very popular mask from the series ;-)  To have done something truly original, I would've just gone & completely re-sculpted the whole mask, but Tim & I were wary of alienating fans or pissing them off completely.  Though I'd reason that a new sculpt could be Obsession's tip of the blade to Jason X & the Reboot.  Hmmm... Maybe for the next season ;-)

I'm really glad you guys like, your comments really made my day :)  Thanks!
