Crystal Lake Series Turned Into New Novel From A24
Longtime Friday The 13th fans have spent years trying to collect the original novelizations published based off of a few of the Friday The 13th films. New Line brought the novelizations of some of the films back into the fold with Jason X and Freddy vs Jason, but it is a medium that has long been overlooked. With the Crystal Lake series preparing to release next week and the 1970's vibe of the show at the forefront, it makes sense that A24 is capitalizing on the retro feel from the show with a brand-new novelization of Crystal Lake!
Bloody Disgusting broke the news this morning about the new novel, which has been adapted from the Crystal Lake series by writer Tim Waggoner.
A24 will publish the book on October 15th, which is the same day the show debuts on Peacock. The novelization will be available at the A24 shop on that date for purchase.
Showrunner Brad Caleb Kane had this to say about the new publication of his show:
...I noticed novelizations of my favorite films everywhere, and I bought them all. I loved how the thoughts of the characters were extrapolated and expanded upon, how new scenes were written beyond what was shown on screen. I would rewatch these movies I loved with friends, but only I knew what the characters were really thinking and what their lives had been like before the events of the story.
Owning them felt strangely subversive, and I became a lifelong convert to the Movie Novelization, eventually even finding (and loving) the ones written for the Friday the 13th movies. So when I made Crystal Lake and A24 asked me if I wanted to do a novelization for the series, it was a no-brainer. A true full-circle moment. And having read Tim Waggoner’s novelizations of the X Trilogy, I knew he could translate Pam Voorhees’ chaotic thoughts and complex psychology in new, intriguing ways, ones that might be more clarifying and revealing than we could ever communicate on screen. And boy, has he ever.
The full eight-episode season of Crystal Lake premieres on Peacock (U.S.) on October 15, 2026 (all episodes at once and 60 minutes in length each); also, on Sky Atlantic/NOW in the UK/Ireland, HBO Max across Europe, Middle East, and Africa, and Crave in Canada.
Crystal Lake stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees, with Callum Vinson as young Jason Voorhees, plus William Catlett, Devin Kessler, Cameron Scoggins, Gwendolyn Sundstrom, and others (including Nick Cordileone as Crazy Ralph).
Brad Caleb Kane is executive producing Crystal Lake together with A24 and an executive producing team that includes Marc Toberoff and Victor Miller (Friday 13th LLC), Robert M. Barsamian and Robert P. Barsamian (Horror Inc.), Stuart Manashil, Tyson Bidner, Michael Lennox and Roy Lee
