New Hockey Mask Images Of CW Network Friday The 13th Series Surface
It has now been ten years since the CW Network decided to not pickup the proposed Friday The 13th series that would have seen the story take place in the “real’’ Crystal Lake.
At the time, production was revealed as the following:
Sean Cunningham confirmed interest from the CW in regards to pickup for the tv show. According to him, the basic premise focuses on the REAL city of Crystal Lake, and the effect that the serialized films had on its real life counterpart. This allows them to reimagine Jason in a more grounded reality, as the films would be based off the real life killings that took place at the Camp. (ie, both the Hockey Masked Jason and a more serious backwoods inspired killer will be making appearances throughout)
It could have been a good premise, but ultimately the president of CW network at the time, Mark Pedowitz, decided it wasn’t right for the network:
We didn’t believe it was a sustainable script or a sustainable series. The bottom line is we felt we had stronger things to go with, and we didn’t go forward with it. It was well-written, it was darker than we wanted it to be, and we didn’t believe it had sustainability … It was a very good pilot, but not a sustainable series.
This was a devastating blow as there was already heavy work put into the production of the show, most notably extensive work had been completed by Sota FX on the look of Jason Voorhees and the hockey mask he would have worn in the show. We have shared all of the work previously, but today another of the 5 fiberglass masks created for the show has surfaced.
This mask is different from the one we reported on back in 2020 as it has an axe mark at the top and the previous mask did not. Over the years, some fans have voiced their displeasure for this mask design and others have applauded it. What do you think of the mask, and would you spend $2,000 on a mask created for a show that never aired?
