Friday The 13th Films' Influence On Marketing And Creating Music

The Friday the 13th Franchise has been mentioned as a major influence on the slasher boom in the 1980's. In a more negative light, the franchise has been made out to be THE example of the decline of modern society. Isn't it great to love a set of films that has such a social influence?! Within the last several years, there has been a lot of music influenced by Jason Voorhees and the Friday the 13th films.

Ari Lehman has taken his band from a Reggae type of genre mix into a full fledged Jason Voorhees Rock inspired extravaganza. In his case, Ari loves the series and that is one reason for why he switched to a Jason centric act. However, being upfront that his band is all about Jason and Friday the 13th does not hurt the band's marketability or sales numbers either! So, is money the main focus of recent music offerings using Friday the 13th to promote the music to its fans?

The artwork for the covers of these CD's are fun and look as though some thought was put into their design. Are the artists behind these CD's really inspired by the Friday the 13th films? Look how embedded Jason Voorhees is in our culture where bands and artists are openly embracing the look and feel of one of cinemas most recognizable villains.

If Friday the 13th is responsible for the slasher craze of the 1980's and the "degradation" of society as a whole, then one could say that now the Friday the 13th franchise is responsible for modern music as it now spawns Jason inspired music around the world! What are your thoughts and favorite franchise inspired artists and songs?
