New Tom Savini Doco Smoke And Mirrors

Many people argue that Tom Savini is THE reason that Friday the 13th became the jugernaut slasher franchise of the 1980's and quite possibly of all time. His special effects work on the 1980 film as well as Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter in 1984 set industry benchmarks for make-up and prostetics work. His visionary work reached further than Jason Voorhees to such films as Dawn Of The Dead and Creep Show.

Tom's acting also has earned him cult status with turns in films such as Robert Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn as Sex Machine and recently as an assassin in Machete. His career in film is just one small part of a truly interesting life that has touched so many that are fans of cinema. The big news for Tom Savini fans is that a brand new documentary has been filmed that chronicals his entire life named Smoke and Mirrors.

The documentary contains interviews with friends of Savini such as Night Of The Living Dead Director George Romero as well as former collaboraters in make-up effects Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger. The doco does not have a release date as of yet, but when news comes down about a release date, we will let everyone know. In the mean time, please watch the documentary's first trailer to catch a glimpse of what is in store.

Also, if you are interested in contributing to the doco to get it released, check out Kickstarter to find out how to donate. And for more information about the project, Read Dread Central's Interview with Director Jason Baker.

  1. This looks so awesome. I am a big fan of Savini's work and it will be real interesting to learn about how he survived mentally, from his Vietnam experience and translated that into an unbelievable film career!

  5. no need to argue Savini IS the reason for pretty much ALL the gore the we see today
and most of his ideas are still being used
he is in a way a god to the Horror and Slasher films

Without Savini ppl like me would have nothing to do
