Freddy vs Jason Mrs. Voorhess Actress Paula Shaw Dies At 84

 Sad news today as we learned that Paula Shaw, who was the first to take on the villainous role of Mrs. Voorhees after Betsy Palmer's infamous portrayal, died on September 10th. The Hollywood Reporter posted the news yesterday that she died in her sleep in Vancouver after battling a longstanding illness.

Paula had this to say about acting and her life:

Never could I have predicted how acting and healing might come together for me, nor how powerful that joining would become,” she once wrote. “I discovered that the secret to well-being and self-fulfillment was to ongoingly challenge personal limits of who I think I am and what I’m capable of creating in my life.

I met Paula nearly fifteen years ago and had a great conversation with her about her time working on Freddy vs Jason.

I asked her if she felt any pressure following up Betsy Palmer's performance and she had this to say:

she felt no pressure at all as she was on set to do a job and give an interpretation of the character that she felt best fit the movie she was working on.

Paula was a terrific person and seemingly gave a lot of herself to acting through her performances as well as workshops that helped others find their expressive selves. Rest In Peace.
