Promoting Friday The 13th: A Look Back At Crystal Japan?

A lot of people do not realize the scope and reach of the Friday The 13th film franchise around the world. Jason Voorhees is one of the most recognizable screen villains and anti-heroes in the history of cinema. As such, when Friday The 13th 2009 was preparing to head to the big screen, countries like Japan decided to celebrate in their own way with a unique promotion that in turn echoed the working title for Friday The 13th Part 3.

The Yamanaka Lake area, located in Japan, is adjacent to Mt. Fuji and was chosen for the honor to don one of the most famous location names in slasher history. As part of the promotion for the 2009 franchise reboot, Japan officials changed the name of the lake region to Camp Crystal Lake. The change in name was brief and lasted up until the release of the film in theaters. The attraction must have been fun for locals to be a part of a small piece of American cinema.

Interestingly enough, Crystal Lake in Japan offers some fun memories of Crystal Japan, which was the working title for Friday The 13th Part 3. The franchise was infamous for using David Bowie song titles to hide Friday The 13th film titles of the films and for Part 3, this was no exception.

Big thanks to Friday The 13th fan daizab who sent the image of the lake to this writer a few years ago. We hope everyone enjoys!
