Derek Mears Talks Returning As Jason Voorhees In Friday The 13th Sequel

Last month it was revealed that Platinum Dunes would be returning to work on the next Friday The 13th film, which sparked a lot of conversation on what to expect for the company's second go around at Crystal Lake. One of the biggest questions is if Derek Mears will return to reprise his role as Jason Voorhees in the next film. In some interviews in the past few years, Derek has mentioned his willingness to return to the famous and villainous role, but with the news of Platinum Dunes on board for a new sequel, where does he stand now?

Daily Dead recently caught up with Derek to talk about his role in Hatchet 3 and eventually asked Derek if he has heard anything new about Friday The 13th and his status of reprising the role.

From Daily Dead
I know our readers would kill us if I didn’t ask… are you itching to put back on the hockey mask and have you heard anything about coming back for the new Friday the 13th movie?

Derek Mears: It’s been quiet on that front. I don’t know if I’ll return for the sequel. I would like to, but we’ll see how it all turns out. Before the new announcement about it moving forward again, I had dinner with Platinum Dunes and they said: “If we do any more, we want you back”

I don’t know if that’s going to come around now, but we’ll see. Even if I’m not part of it, I just want to see more Friday the 13th films because I love the character.

Check out the rest of the interview at Daily Dead and keep it here for when more sequel news becomes available!
